Last year, Dustin left his scooter in Utah while he got settled in Minnesota. The though of having no scooter assist him in his daily adventures at Galactic pizza, he was determined to get Stella to his abode. But how? As he searched for alternatives to ship Stella to her new home, Dustin had an idea: Ride the scooter from Utah, to Minnesota. Scooterquest was born.

When this all happened, I was just a part of the crazy quest that Mike, Andy, and Dustin embarked on. And I tried to make sure they had a good time while in Utah. I even made sure they had a safe trip out of the mountains on my scooter. As we departed with our fists raised high, I knew that we had to do this again.

Almost a year has past since the last epic trip and we are having an awesome time planning this years adventure. We have increased the miles, set a new course, and we are almost complete with having the website fully functioning.

We will have many more announcements as we go. Stay tuned!

Beginning.

Greetings Friends!

Michael “Speed Scooter” Venske signing on to throw down some thoughts and a bit of back-story about Scooter Quest ‘08…

Initially, Scooter Quest ‘08 wasn’t a scooter quest at all.  Months ago, a co-worker and friend of mine from the Brave New Workshop announced that he was getting married to the love of his life.  Naturally, I was ecstatic.  I asked when and where the ceremony would be and he told me New York.  Acting on impluse, I stated I would be there.

(Thinking about it now, I should have asked if I could attend…  Or at the very least, been invited.)

Deep at my core, I know that New York is my destiny.  And in writing that, I’m immediately reminded of the movie Back To The Future where George McFly says to Loraine in the diner: “…and I’m your density. I mean, I’m your destiny. “  It’s the truth though.  Something inside of me switched-on when I heard the wedding was in New York.  I didn’t have to think about it, I just reacted and now here we are.

A few months later, Shirley arrived on my doorstep and again, without thinking I made the quick-decision that I’d be scooting to New York.  Primarily because I love riding Shirley and hate flying (besides, when you’re on a scooter, getting to your destination is half the fun).

I approached Dustin, the man behind Scooter Quest ‘07 (Utah to Minneapolis), and asked him if he’d like to ride along.  As a man of adventure, Dustin couldn’t resist.  The same goes for Sean, the genius of a man that’s responsible for this site (and upcoming appearances, sponsors, and just about everything else) and our Utah home base last fall.

Acting as my escorts, Dustin and Sean will ensure my safe arrival in New York so that I may have my date with Destiny…

And with that…

Welcome dear readers!  Let the adventure begin!

Signing off,

Michael J

The print shop REALLY screwed up on the custom vinyl stickers I had made… To give you an idea…

This is what the size of the sticker should be. 4.25 inches, and ready to stick on the coolest of scooters. Beside the dr.pepper, its fairly sized…
The sticker on the right is what they gave me. *sigh* They were cool enough to just re print the vinyl to the right size as well as keep the massive versions… So I’ll probably do a give away with them. Stay tuned!

When in doubt, scoot!

I and my friends are having a tough time juggling a full time job, a social life, and this scooter quest alltogether, but I find it exhilarating to finally have everything underway. We are now starting to get our gear together to mount on the scooters itself.

No blueprints have been made as of yet, but in short we will have cameras feeding a live stream to our audience as we go on and off our scooters throughout the entire event. No specs yet, but in short, we should be able to communicate to the audience as we ride from Minnesota to New York. How cool is that?!

I actually got enough scratch together to get a brand new 2008 Genuine Stella (in green of course) for this event! As each passing day goes by and I get frustrated with Scooter Quest, I sit on the seat of that new scooter, take her for a spin around the beautiful mountains of utah, and all that built up frustration is left behind in the dust my scooter kicked up. I couldn’t ask for more!

Official launch of Scooterquest.com!

Sean Blake here, letting you all know that the scooter quest site is officially up and online! As the weeks go by, the Scooter Quest crew will be updating the travel log up to August 24th when we leave. From there, we will be updating nightly talking about the adventures we’ve had that day!

It’s been many sleepless nights and endless hours on the project itself, but a labor of love 100% of the way. From figuring out a scooter safe route, building the site, and planning events, to making sure you, the audience, are able to interact with us and feel like you are riding with us as we attempt this daring feat.

We are well on our way to making sure this scooter quest takes off well so we can show evreyone how exciting scooters can be as well as a future tool to help this rock we live on.  There are many more posts coming soon. Thanks again for being interested in our epic adventure for a greener earth!

-Sean

About this blog

It all started in 2007, with a friend driving from Minnesota to Utah to grab his scooter. Once Dustin Saunders reached Utah, he rode his scooter back to Minnesota with nothing but his friends and the will to drive it back against all odds. In 08' Dustin, Michael, and Sean embarked on a 3000+ mile trip unscathed. Ever since then, we travel in the name of adventure to the most epic places in America.
